The dance became world famous two months later when Jackson performed it during a television special, Motown Yesterday, Today, Forever.

Dressed in his signature black trousers, silver socks, silver shirt, black-sequined jacket, rhinestoned glove, and black fedora, Jackson spun around, posed, and began moonwalking.

Music critic Ian Inglis later wrote that Jackson encapsulated a long tradition of African-American dance movements in that one performance. Michael Jackson's autobiography was titled Moonwalk , and he also starred in a film titled Moonwalker.

Alexei Kovalev has been known for using the moonwalk in his National Hockey League career. Kovalev moonwalked onto the ice after being named one of the stars of the game and again after scoring in a celebrity charity soccer game.

The music video does not feature the Moonwalk, though it plays on the premise with a CGI moon background and a simple 2-step by the singer to give the impression he is "walkin' on the moon.

He really was born to become a "King". I had expected him to tell a bit more about Brooke Shield but it was just a one liner.

But hey, who are we to say what he should or should not write in the book? He told of what he wouldn't mind for the public, for the fans to know.

Everyone has that right. It is HIS book afterall. Apr 29, Cristina rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: People looking for inspiration; people who want to learn about M.

Shelves: auto-biographies-memoirs. I used to be crazy about Michael as a kid. I also used to watch "Moonwalker" over and over, on a German dubbed VHS tape, that my dad had bought in one of his work-related travels.

I've never been a die-hard fan of his, in the sense that I didn't know his entire discography nor did I used to be crazy about Michael as a kid.

I've never been a die-hard fan of his, in the sense that I didn't know his entire discography nor did I follow all of his lifetime events, but I respected him as an artist and person.

I always rooted for him and believed in his lyrics and in the fact that he was genuinely following his goal of uniting people through music, setting an example of love and tolerance.

I read this book because I wanted to know more about his perspective. I am always looking for some sort of guidance in the books I read, or "looking for answers".

He went on to his teenage and young adult years, as The Jackson 5 later on, The Jacksons slowly interrupted their collaboration with Motown, their starting label, in order to create a new sound, as well as launch Michael into his solo career.

He added a more personal feel to the story by recollecting bits of childhood memories and quirks about his relationship with his brothers and sisters, especially with Janet, whom he felt very close to, like a twin.

One episode that I really liked was concerning his single "Beat It" for which he gathered actual gangs to star in the video, instead of actors.

He talked about how humble and kind those guys were, and how much respect they had for him, that the tough image was just a defense act and they just wanted to be treated fairly and be listened to.

Offer respect and you get it back. As a side note, I think you should read this book having YouTube nearby, so you can get a clearer picture of the way he described his work on different songs or "short films" how he liked to call his videos.

There were many quotes I liked in this book, but I will share only one of them: "In the end, the most important thing is to be true to yourself and those you love and work hard.

I mean, work like there's no tomorrow. I mean, really train and cultivate your talent to the highest degree.

Be the best at what you do. Get to know more about your field than anybody alive. Use the tools of your trade, if it's books or a floor to dance on or a body of water to swim in.

Whatever it is, it's yours. I think he would have had a lot of valuable insights to share. One of the things this book has taught me is to listen to my inner child, to keep my enthusiasm for every step of the journey towards my goals, a journey that requires a lot of hard work and determination.

He was such a perfectionist in everything he did, so mature and creative for his work, and at the same time, he had such a good soul, with a lot of love and positivity to offer, but was misunderstood by many.

He acknowledges that fame isn't what it all seems to be. In fact, he would love to trade places with anyone at anytime.

He exaggerates on the point that because of his fame, his life is not what he wanted it to be. Growing up with an abusive father, with no friends and absolutely no independence makes him love Moonwalk is an amazing and very descriptive story of Michael Jackson's life prior to and up until Growing up with an abusive father, with no friends and absolutely no independence makes him love singing and dancing even more.

He claims that on the stage and in front of his fans he is the real Michael Jackson. Furthermore, throughout the book Jackson touches on key points such as the color of the skin and the theories behind them.

He clearly explains that due to a skin disease such as vitiligo, his skin was discolor and it was something that he himself could not control.

I would recommend this to all the Michael Jackson fans out there. Even to those who believe the media and call him a liar.

I would want people to research and know the truth before they start making accusations. After they know the truth, then it's up to them to decide what they want to believe in.

I just wish it would have been a more recent book so we can get what he was feeling now a days, before he died.

I love and have always loved Michael and his music. He will truely be the King Of Pop forever!!! While I wasn't even born when most of the events in this book take place it's nice to see what kind of childhood he had, even if it wasn't the best with all the performin I really enjoyed this book.

While I wasn't even born when most of the events in this book take place it's nice to see what kind of childhood he had, even if it wasn't the best with all the performing and traveling.

I searched youtube videos to see what he was talking about when he mentioned things from the Jackson 5 through his Motown 25 "Billie Jean" performance.

I truely adore MJ and he will be missed!!! This was a wonderful book!!!!! Aug 19, Kenna rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Everyone.

Shelves: library-books , books-i-own , favorites. When I learned the Michael Jackson one of my favorite singers of all time had written a book I tracked it down like a bloodhound on a scent trail.

And I am happy to announce that I was not disappointed. Just reading words that he had written and intended for his fans to read gave me a strong sense of euphoria.

This book was well written though it was very short and somewhat closed off like Michael always was with a lot of his personal life. It made me think of a child scared to document his or h When I learned the Michael Jackson one of my favorite singers of all time had written a book I tracked it down like a bloodhound on a scent trail.

It made me think of a child scared to document his or her true feelings in their diary for fear that the wrong person maybe come across it in its hiding place.

I also can't help but feel that perhaps Michael wrote this book at the wrong point and time in his life. That maybe it was written to early. But then again I know that if Michael had gotten this book deal at a later time he would have definitely turned it down.

May 04, Brad Acker added it. Michael is talking to you as if you are having a cup of tea with him in his living room.

You get the sense that Michael is having more than tea, because his stream of consciousness takes fascinating turns and goes off on self-maieutic tangents, which provide insight into his character, determination, and artistry.

Michael's book was first published in We now know his future, but not clear how that future affected his then "now" or past.

He said at one point in his bio that he felt like an old person, due to havin "I'm a person of the present, and I have to ask, How are things going now?

He said at one point in his bio that he felt like an old person, due to having started in show business so young; thinking he would be closer to death than he actually was.

Little did he know. He spoke about sadness of artists whose lives ended tragically, usually due to drug use. What more could these fabulous performers have done, had they lived.

So sad, that MJ's own life would come to an early, tragic end. I liked that the book had lots of photographs sprinkled through out the pages, rather than all clumped together in special sections.

What I did not like, was some of the people in the photos were not identified, and it seems they were placed out of sequence with the story.

After reading, I wanted to know more. Michael says he was shy and a private person. When the book was ready to be published, he decided not to do it, but finally relented and allowed publication.

I guess those things say why he left out more personal bits of his life. I learned about acute acne affecting his self-esteem; that he had two plastic surgeries to alter his nose and also added a cleft in his chin.

I think the video was actually their Motown audition. Interesting to watch soon after reading all about what lead up to that recording and fame that followed.

Insights from Jackson: "One thing I know about children is that if they don't get the love they need from their parents, they'll get if from someone else and cling to that person, a grandparent, anyone.

I really do. It's something your conscious and subconscious can help make reality. Good book. As a fan of both the Jackson 5, and Michael's solo career, I could rate his biography higher, but not a book I would care to read a second time.

Sep 07, Elise rated it it was amazing Shelves: nonfiction-read. This is the one autobiography Michael Jackson actually wrote himself, and it gives a look into his musical process and a bit of insight into his internal world.

I don't know what other to say, than he was an incredible genius. The way in which he describes how he creates music, what his songs mean to him is simply mind blowing.

For example, in this passage: "'Everybody' is more playful than 'Off the Wall' dance tunes, with Mike McKinney propelling it like a plane turning and bearing down.

The bac This is the one autobiography Michael Jackson actually wrote himself, and it gives a look into his musical process and a bit of insight into his internal world.

The background vocals suggest 'Get on the Floor's' influence, but Quincy's sound is deeper, like you're in the eye of the storm--our sound was more like going up the glass elevator to the top floor while looking down, rising effortlessly.

And who can really talk about music in that way, other than a musical genius? Towards the end he talks about himself personally.

I couldn't help but be moved about his passion for the world. He was a really amazing person. Moonwalk Review Book Rating: 5 stars out of 5.

Story Line: 5 stars out of 5. I really felt like I got to know the real Michael Jackson by reading this. It was nice getting to know his thoughts and feelings.

People really tend to judge others. So many people made up lies about him. This book was an amazing read. I really enjoyed and loved every minute of it.

I read it slower than I normally do with books because I really wanted to absorb every word that he said. I successfully did that and I feel like I got to know him because of it.

I really wish I could have met him to tell him what I thought of the book. RIP Michael Jackson. Let your music and book continue to touch people all around the world.

Michael had a really eloquent way that he spoke. I felt like you got to hear his actual voice. His writing was really him.

It was a great book. Thank you, Michael, for letting me get to know you through your writing. Oct 06, Lynne Stringer rated it really liked it Shelves: autobiographies-biographies.

I enjoyed this book, which I purchased and first read years ago. It gives interesting insight into a man who was, in my opinion, undoubtedly a musical genius.

Unfortunately, as with most geniuses, this trait can turn against a person. It was certainly interesting to read about Michael's childhood and their treatment at the hands of their father, which I felt was rather restrained.

Not to mention the impact that thousands of screaming female fans would have had on an eleven-year-old, in addition I enjoyed this book, which I purchased and first read years ago.

Not to mention the impact that thousands of screaming female fans would have had on an eleven-year-old, in addition to performing sets in between acts at various strip clubs from the age of five.

Things like that, and being vilified for nothing more horrible than growing up, would have an affect on anyone's psyche.

Michael talks about his childhood and his rise to fame especially during his "Thriller" era. An illusion is involved in creating the appearance of the dancer gliding.

The leg being pulled up moves the leg behind it back with the toes still touching the ground and transfers the weight on to it. The leg with weight on it goes up and the other leg is drawn back in turn.

These steps are repeated over and over. Variations of this move allow the backslider to also appear to glide forwards, sideways, and even in a circle.

There are many recorded instances of the moonwalk, Similar steps are reported as far back as , used by Cab Calloway. In it was recorded in a performance by tap dancer Bill Bailey.

In Marceau's famous "Walking Against the Wind" routine Marceau pretends to be pushed backwards by a gust of wind.
